The Prophecy 

When I was sixteen, I had a dream that wasn't like other dreams. In it, an older version of me — a man who looked like he'd lived through a lot more than forty-some years — sat me down and told me, in specific detail, everything the next two and a half decades were going to cost me before I got anywhere near the life waiting on the other side of it.

I didn't believe him. Then it started happening, piece by piece, until I couldn't call it a coincidence anymore.

The Prophecy Foretold is where that dream first hits the page — Mark's story, the one everything else in this series grows out of. It's fiction, but it's built around something that actually happened to me, and I wrote it the way I'd tell it to you if we were sitting across from each other instead of you scrolling past it on a screen.
